PostHeaderIcon Baby Cocoon is the way to go

A baby cocoon is especially good for colicky babies because the three-dimensional motion tends to help settle their little underdeveloped stomachs. The 0 to 3 month period can be the most distressing for the baby.

The accepted wisdom goes that during this period baby does not have enough digestive enzyme in their gut to effectively digest their food and as a result they can experience very painful acid reflux or colic.

It is not only distressing for the baby but it is also most unpleasant for the parents to have to deal with it. Many parents have found that by using a baby cocoon the colic symptoms can be greatly reduced allowing baby to, in many cases, sleep right through the night.

This is an absolute godsend for parents having to deal with colicky babies. It means baby gets enough sleep allowing her to deal with life in general on a day-to-day basis and it also means Mom and Dad get enough sleep the benefits of which are obvious.

There are a few manufacturers of baby cocoons/hammocks the most popular being the Miyo baby hammock and the Amby baby hammock. Having personally use the Miyo baby hammock I can highly recommend this product to anybody considering purchasing such a thing. It has worked really well for us.

PostHeaderIcon Growth spurt? Teething? Reflux peak?

Hi there,

My 19week old son has had severe reflux since birth & it’s being treated my medication & we’ve been told to just ride it out & it could take up until 18months to resolve. My son has never really slept through the night, he often cries from 1230pm every half hour to an hour until his morning feed at 4am but lately he’s worse, he’s what I call yelling most of the day & night, he’s not happy anywhere or any how but it’s not a painful cry, it’s just a fussy yelling (like yelling at his toys), when I go to him he’ll snap out of it & smile & laugh & I hang out with him for a while & he’ll start up again. We’ve tried everything to help our little guy sleep from the Tucker Sling to a Baby Hammock, most night’s he still sleeps in his swing but he’s fast growing out of it as he’s in the 97th percentile & the size of an average 8month old. He’s showing ALL the signs of teething but has been for several weeks now? I’m just a little confused as to what’s going on & my Dr & pediatrician all say "he’s getting faster, bigger, stronger" so there’s nothing to worry about…

Sorry it’s long!

Thanks in advance!

PostHeaderIcon My 5 week old will not sleep?

My 5 week old son will not sleep more than 15 minutes during the day. He used to take nice long naps and would sleep for several hours in his cradle or in the swing. Now he will not sleep more than 15 minutes anywhere. I have tried the cradle, swing, bouncy seat, baby hammock, driving around in the car, going for walks in the stroller, and even when I am holding and rocking him he won’t stay asleep. His eyes blink open about 15-20 minutes after falling asleep without fail. At times he has been awake for 10 hours without a significant nap. By that time he is totally exhausted but still won’t stay asleep.

At night he is a little better, but has stopped sleeping any place but in my arms. We used to be able to sleep him successfully for hours at a time in his cradle at night. He now refuses to sleep anyplace but in bed with me holding him. I am not a huge fan of co-sleeping at all, but I am desperate. I have to rock or sway him to sleep then slip into bed. He will not fall asleep on his own at all.

I am so exhausted myself from this. Because he doesn’t sleep I don’t get any breaks during the day or at night. Has anyone else had this problem? I welcome any ideas or suggestions you have that may help. Thanks!

PostHeaderIcon 4 month that doesn't like day naps!?

Hi guys (sorry bit of a novel but trying to cover all details).
I have a 4month boy who is great through the night, sleeps from 7-7 getting up only at 4am’ish for quick fed and straight back to bed. The problem is during the day!!! He is fed 4x 3.5hrly (roughly) and is up for about 90mins before put down for nap after fed and play. I notice his tired signs which is normally grizzling so its into sleep suit (as hates been swaddled), wind down with head rub and soft talking and off to bed (which is a baby hammock). He has a dummy (for sleep only) and goes down quite easily with me rubbing his face lightly for a min while I have my other hand on his chest holding arms down gently shaking slightly (just to get him to relax and stop rubbing eyes and knocking dummy out) – then I leave after max 2mins and as long as dummy stays in hes off to sleep by himself. I don’t rock or bounce him anymore as I would prefer he settles himself to sleep so this is as hands of as I can be as this just relaxes him so he can fall sleep by himself.
Here’s the problem he should be sleeping for 3x 2hours day naps and some days hes perfect (sleeps almost 2hrs to the min) but most days at least one or sometimes all of those naps only lasts 45mins (which is know is a babies’ sleep cycle). I have tried to put him back down with PU/PD and crying techniques and have persevered for at least 45mins before getting him up again with no talking (only sshhh’s) and no eye contact. Sometimes it works and sometimes he fights it so much I get him up. Usually after 1/2hr of been up after 45min nap hes ready for bed again which throws out both our days. Does any one else have this problem? From what I have found out and know its a good amount of sleep for a boy his age and he cant stay up longer as gets overtired and unbearable as I’ve tried tiring him more to see if will nap longer but nothing has worked its like he will sleep if he wants to. I do everything the same daily and its not the dummy causing problems either (because he does sleep without it) and its not any other outside interference. Getting him down is a breeze 99% of the time but getting him to sleep longer than 45mins is a mission. Ive even tried working with the "45mins nap thing" making him stay up shorter and nap more often but its not for us as he wants to be fed and wont finish feeds or is just generally unsettled and all over the place. Ive also tried pram walks with him or going in and rocking some days when its getting close to 45mins some days with success and others without. I have a hard time believing that 45mins is a long enough nap for a boy his age – please help! Is this normal? Y can he sleep OK at night in same bed, temperature, clothes etc but not day?

PostHeaderIcon Tips on getting 9 month old to sleep in cot in her own room??

Hi

I have a 9 month old daughter, she currently sleeps in our room in her own little baby hammock, but she will soon out grow this and we will be moving her into the cot in her own bedroom.

If you have any tips or experiencies on how you made this transition with your babies please let me know.

I was thinkin of trying to get her used to sleeping in her cot by getting her to just have a nap in there to start with what do you think?

PostHeaderIcon I think I'm going to lose my mind!?!?

Hi there,

My 4month old has been a handful & hasn’t slept through the night yet which I can live with but for the past two weeks he has been refusing to sleep during the day, I’m lucky if he sleeps 1hr in 12hrs & I wouldn’t mind if he was happy the rest of the time but he’s so tired & cranky he just yells all day! He’s a reflux baby but he’s on the strongest dose of meds, we have an appointment to see our health nurse, Dr & pediatrician but until then I’m hoping for some answers please!?!?

Things we’ve tried to help him sleep are endless but include:

Swing
Tucker Wedge
Baby Hammock
Cot with lullabub rocker (it basically rocks the cot)
Pram – I literally walked him around my backyard yesterday for four hours
Bath & Massage
He’s fed
He’s clean
My house is climate controlled to 22 degrees celsius
Nurofen / panadol
Infants Friend

The only thing we haven’t done is a drive in the car, even if it did get him to sleep he ALWAYS wakes up as soon as the car stops. He’s not in pain cos as soon as we pick him up he starts smiling & laughing but he JUST WON’T NAP!

At night he’s exhausted by the time his last bottle’s due he’s passed out & sleeps solid till 12am then from 12am to 4am he wakes every few minutes & generally fusses or cries so he sleeps in my room.

My husband works 12hr days & I have no help.

I’m currently TRYING to read the No Cry Sleep Solution book but I barely get a sentence read before he needs me.

Any helpful suggestions appreciated x

PS – He cries until he vomits & he can go from calm to vomiting in less than two minutes…
ETA – Oh & swaddling’s out, we stopped swaddling a month ago cos he cannot stand to be constrained anymore.
ETA – Thanks everyone, I probably should’ve mentioned that even though I have a Baby Bjorn & ring sling, I can’t carry him for long periods as I have a back injury & he’s over 9kgs (21lb)

I just called my Dr & got an earlier appointment, I’m seeing him this afternoon.

PostHeaderIcon Can I switch my bearded dragons heat lamp to the other side of the tank?

For those of you who don’t know bearded dragons need a basking(heated)side and a cooling side. My boyfriend wants to move their tank around(like move their log, their hammock, their rock etc.) around just for a change and he also wants to move their heat lamp from one side to the other because he plans on putting their basking branch on the other side. I just want to know if this is ok and what precautions we should take in doing this. I don’t want to stress my babies out at all if possible. Also, my boyfriend is big on change so he might want to change their tank around every so often, how often is too often? Thanks in advance!
KimbeeJ-
My dragons are babies, babies can be housed together. They are only about 2 months old.
